Thumbs up for Book Lust by Nancy Pearl. Nonfiction.
For no good reason, I didn’t read this when it was popular – or maybe that was the reason. Now that I have, I must say that it was informative (about books I should have known better, but didn’t), comforting (about how very many books I do not want to read), and enlightening (about things I do want to read). Like maybe this:
Cynthia Ozick’s brilliance and wit shines through in all her writing, but nowhere more so than in the linked short stories of The Puttermesser Papers, a fictional biography of the life (and death and afterlife) of a Jewish woman in Manhattan. Attorney and dedicated reader Ruth Puttermesser’s existence includes a stint as mayor of New York, several love affairs, and the creation of a golem. Not to be missed.
