Thumbs up for Matched by Ally Condie. Young adult science fiction.
There’s no real violence in this, so it’s not so much a Hunger Games knock-off as The Giver redone as a romance. And done fairly well. (And if you don’t know what I mean because you haven’t read The Giver, what’s wrong with you? Go read it. I’ll wait. In fact I should go read it again, because it’s been a while.) I may read the second one when I come across it. But, unlike with Divergent (see my review), I’m not impatiently waiting for it.
He holds on for a long time. It is an hour before midnight in a deep blue night when Grandfather looks at us and says the best words of all with which to end a life. “I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”
