Thumbs up for The Chosen by Chaim Potok. Literature.
Jewish boy in New York during WWII befriends another boy who is from the Hasidic sect. I’ve been meaning to read this for a while. Once I got past the 27-page-long baseball game (that’s the thing where they try to hit the ball, right?) I found it hard to put down. For most of the book I was thinking: Well, this is very good, but is it really so great that it should be on best-books-of-all-time lists? Then I read the last page. There you go. That’s why.
“Do you know what I don’t understand about that ball game? I don’t understand why I wanted to kill you.”
