Thumbs up for The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett. Literature.
In a nutshell: the Queen discovers the pleasure of reading. (Yes, the current Queen, so would this be considered fantasy?) A witty and absolutely delightful novella. A customer of mine ordered five copies to give out for Christmas, which I think is a fair recommendation. It’s a dollop of happiness for anyone who loves to read.
‘Pass the time?’ said the Queen. ‘Books are not about passing the time. They’re about other lives. Other worlds. Far from wanting time to pass, Sir Kevin, one just wishes one had more of it. If one wanted to pass the time one could go to New Zealand.’
