Thumbs up for Underwear: What We Wear Under There by Ruth Freeman Swain, illustrated by John O’Brien. Children’s history.

Quite cute. Rather embarrassing to admit: my knowledge of the history of underwear already surpasses this book.

“N” Day was May 15th, 1940, the day when nylon stockings first went on sale to the public. Across the country [US] crowds waited for hours outside stores. Even though each customer could only buy one pair, three quarters of a million pairs of nylons sold out at once.

My bookstore is an affiliate of Bookshop.org, so we will earn a commission if you click through my links and make a purchase. I, personally, am also an affiliate of the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and will likewise make a commission if you click through those links and make a purchase. Having to use Amazon doesn’t fill me with joy, but they’re the only good affiliate program for used books available right now. So…that’s the way it is.
